Upcoming Events
⛸️ Sensory-Friendly Public Skate (Northgate)
Date: Jan 9-11 @ 9a-10:30a
Price: $11; ages 4+
This is public skate done right for families who need a little more calm and a lot more care. The Sensory Friendly Public Skate keeps attendance limited, lights softened, and noise turned way down so neurodiverse kids can actually enjoy being on the ice without overwhelm.
There are free sensory bags to borrow, a dedicated quiet room if anyone needs a break, and a vibe that says you belong here.
🥁 Free Sunshine Music Together Sample Class (Ages 0-5) (Green Lake, Magnolia, Capitol Hill)
Date: Jan 9 - 11
Price: Free
Sunshine Music Together is a research backed music program for kids from birth to age five where singing, movement, rhythms, and instrument play turn into 45 minutes of pure connection every week. No pressure, no performance, just joyful noise that helps with language, coordination, and confidence.
Bonus for parents: you are not just watching from the sidelines. You get to jump in, bond, and feel like a good parent before your second cup of coffee. They also offer Rhythm Kids for ages 5 to 8, which is perfect when your little drummer refuses to retire.

🧱 Brick Buddies (Capitol Hill)

LEGO Building (northernvirginiamag.com)
The Capitol Hill Library sets out LEGO, DUPLO, MEGA BLOKS, and other building sets, and kids just build whatever their brains dream up while parents get a rare moment of calm that does not involve a screen.
It is drop in, free, and perfect for ages 3 to 10, though siblings and caregivers are welcome too. No registration, no pressure, no mess to clean up at home. Just show up, let the kids construct something wildly impractical, and leave feeling like you won the day.
Paid
🛥️ Seattle Ferry (Seattle)
Taking the Seattle Ferry is the best kept secret. It is free to walk on, instantly feels like an adventure, and a round trip to Bainbridge Island magically eats up about two hours without anyone asking for a screen. Grab the clam chowder on board because it is quietly some of the best in the city, let the kids hunt down the communal puzzles that always need finishing, and head outside where veteran ferry riders somehow always have bubbles ready for entertainment.
Bonus points if you spot a whale and casually become the most impressive parent on the boat.
Dining
🖐️ 5 Spot (Seattle)
5 Spot. Located in Queen Anne, it is the kind of casual American spot where breakfast, lunch, or dinner all work equally well.
Their chicken and waffles are mentioned 40 times in the reviews and sometimes the staff will bring kids balloons 😍
The menu is classic, comforting, and generous, the atmosphere is relaxed enough for kids to be kids, and parents can actually enjoy the meal.
