Free stuff

Discovery Park

This has to be one of our favorite hiking areas in the city (we took our family photos here). Discovery Park offers beaches, parks, hikes, views of the sound and the all famous lighthouse (truly de-light-ful 😬).

Pro-Tips :

  • Energize: Stop by Caffe Appassionato on your way over there. This Coffee Roastery and Tasting Bar has some food options to get you caffeinated and energized for a hike

  • Carrier for the Climb: If hitting the beach, bring a sturdy carrier for the long, steep walk back up from the lighthouse. Your arms will thank you

  • Pick Your Zone: Focus on either the beach (park by lighthouse) or the playground/open fields (near Visitor Center). I wouldn’t try to do both extensively in one trip with a toddler

Upcoming Events and other stuff

The Evergreen State Fair

8/21 to 9/1 (closed Aug 27th)

This isn't your grandma's county fair. We're talking epic Monster Truck Mayhem, insane carnival rides, live music from legends like Stone Temple Pilots and Wynonna Judd, plus all the classic fair chaos, fireworks, and animal action you can handle. Go grab your tickets now – don't sleep on this, it's a guaranteed win for the whole family.

  • Hit the Advance Tickets: Don't pay gate prices. Buy your tickets online ahead of time. It's less hassle and saves you cash – more for those insane fair foods.

  • Strategize Your Ride Passes: If your kids (or you) are ride fanatics, look into wristbands or unlimited ride passes. Buying individual tickets is a sucker's game if you're hitting more than a few.

  • Fuel Up Smart (and Hydrate): Fair food is amazing, but it's also a gut punch. Balance the deep-fried madness with some actual water and maybe a sensible snack you bring. You'll thank me when you're not crashing halfway through.

Adults: $16

Kids under 5: FREE

Spark Museum

The SPARK Museum of Electrical Invention (in Bellingham) is a jolt of pure energy and the plug (youth lingo). We're talking giant Tesla coils, lightning shows, and machines straight out of Frankenstein's lab – it’s a sensory explosion that brings science to life in a way textbooks never could. You want to spark curiosity and blow their minds (safely, of course)? This is where it happens. This is an investment in wonder, so grab your tickets.

  • Adults (13 & up): $10

  • Youth (12 & under): $6

  • Children under 2: Free

Pro-Tips:

  • Weekend Sparks: Saturdays and Sundays are exclusive to the Mega Zapper Shows (children must be 5 or older)

  • Stroller or Carrier Ready: The museum involves moving between different areas and standing for shows. Have a stroller for quick naps or a carrier for easy mobility through crowds.

  • Pre-Show Prep (and Exit Strategy): Talk about the "loud noises" and "bright lights" beforehand so they know what to expect. If it gets too intense, be ready with an easy exit for a quick break.

Dining

Johnny Mo’s

Johnny Mo’s Pizza isn't just serving up phenomenal New York and Chicago-style pies; they've built a kid-friendly empire that actually makes family dinner enjoyable. This place gets it – from the bustling atmosphere (a little noise is a good thing with toddlers!) to a menu that goes way beyond just pizza, ensuring everyone finds their win.

Pro-Tips:

  • Go for the Deep Dish (Strategically): If you're getting Chicago style, remember it takes about 30 min. Order appetizers like cheesy garlic bread or meatballs to keep tiny hands busy while you wait.

  • Kids Buttered Noodles MVP: Seriously, if all else fails, their "Kids Buttered Noodles" is a secret weapon. It's simple, universally loved by toddlers, and a guaranteed win for picky eaters.

  • Embrace the Buzz: This place can be lively, and that's a good thing! The ambient noise can actually mask toddler chatter and meltdowns, making it a more relaxing experience than a quiet, stuffy restaurant.
