Free stuff

🌹 Woodland Park Rose Garden

The Woodland Park Rose Garden is basically flower heaven. You can wander 2.5 acres filled with nearly 3,000 roses in over 200 varieties, all perfectly arranged in a classic, formal design that looks straight out of a postcard.

Since 2006 the garden has been pesticide free, which not only makes it safer for visitors but also gives the zoo animals a tasty bonus: the gorillas get to snack on the spent roses 🦍

  • Bring a picnic: The garden is free to enter, peaceful, and right next to the zoo, perfect spot to recharge.

🍺 Stoup Brewing (Kenmore)

Stoup Brewing: you get craft beer, the kids get space to run around, plus a color menu that pairs perfectly with a pilsner. Food that appeals to kids (think pizza, nachos, burgers) and very friendly staff that welcomes little ones. They also have a separate loft for private events, beautiful outdoor seating, and everyday happy hour so you can slide in early before it gets crowded.

And the best part… They’ll be joining the Kenmore Oktoberfest 9/20 - 9/22. Definitely check out other events they have going on 🍻

p.s we checked it out ourselves here

Upcoming Events and other stuff

🛻 Monster Jam (Tacoma)

Date: Sept. 19 - 20

Monster Jam is perfect for families because the energy is off the charts, the spectacle appeals to all ages, and you get to see insane stunts up close. There’s also a “Pit Party” before many shows where you can meet drivers, check out the trucks, take photos, and generally geek out.

  • Bring ear protection: These trucks are LOUD. Unless you want to leave hearing like a tin can, bring ear plugs or noise-canceling headphones for kids.

  • Get to the Pit Party early: You’ll get closer access to the trucks and drivers, see what's under the hood, and get better photos before the stadium fills up.

  • Get tickets early: These things sell out quickly, secure your tickets to get the best spots in the house!

Kid Friendly Parent Confessions from our readers

“Sometimes I hide in the bathroom just to eat a snack in peace. My kid thinks I have the weakest bladder.”

“Yes, I told my toddler the ice cream truck only plays music when it’s out of ice cream. And I stand by that lie.”

Paid stuff

🫧 Bubble Planet (Bellevue)

Imagine stepping into a pastel kaleidoscope where bubbles, VR, lights, and wacky landscapes all get together in a big sensory party. That’s Bubble Planet: roughly 10 themed rooms including a giant bubble bath ball pit, an undersea LED room, infinity illusions, and a VR space that lets you feel like you’re inside a dream.

  • Go during off-peak hours (weekday mornings or early afternoons) so it feels more magical and less crowded.

  • Dress comfy: easy-off shoes, socks (mandatory in some rooms), and layers — some rooms are bright, others dim and immersive.

  • Plan a snack break afterward, but skip buying every gift-shop bubble gadget until you exit (those impulse buys hit hard when you’re full of bubbles).

Dining

🍳 Shay’s Restaurant (Shoreline)

Shay’s Restaurant has old school diner vibes that feel like Grandma’s kitchen but with better coffee. The portions are generous, the prices are fair, and the service is fast — even caring about kids by offering a kids menu, high chairs, and food stuff they’ll actually eat. It’s cozy without being cramped, comfort food without being fancy, and just a place the whole crew can show up, get fed, and leave happy.
